So, JJ says the words “bound” “tortured” and “water” in the same sentence and it doesn’t appear to even affect her, OK CRIMINAL MINDS OK
I don’t agree with you. She clearly looks down and contemplates speaking up and then does. Just because she didn’t show a more…
We should see something though. Like possibly a flashback in her mind that only we can see but the team don’t, I’m not saying she had to have a breakdown every five minutes but there has to be at least something. That’s why people don’t like JJ’s character because she’s ‘changed’ too much or she’s too ‘cold’ and ‘withdrawn’ now and the writers aren’t helping the situation by not giving her some sort of character development.
I feel we were supposed to interpret an internal reaction. I don’t think they wanted to shove it down our throats with a flashback, but that’s my opinion. As far as character development goes, she came back different because of what she’s experienced (and because it must be what the networks and AJ agreed to). We’ve gotten a lot of info this season. We know she wasn’t having an affair, we know she lost a baby, we know a little bit more about her sister… Her recent past came back to haunt her in the worst way (getting kidnapped and tortured). I felt she looked a bit sickly/sad/tired after her time off. She’s trying to get back in there and move on from what happened. I don’t really know what else we can expect from her at this point. And when I don’t know answers I assume something reasonable: She’s going to therapy (it must be required to go back to work). She’s part of outreach programs for victims and whatnot. I don’t think Will knows about this child (am I wrong? correct me if so), and I assume he’s been the best husband to her through ALL of this. If her character falls into some sort of rut, like Reid did, I accept it, because real life is that way. (Things can be uneventful and quiet and things happen all around you while you sit still and unchanged.) And then look what happened, we got one of the most enraging, tear jerking, beautiful and creative story lines we could have ever wished for (my opinion) with Reid and Maeve.
I honestly feel the writers do the best they can. I also know they’re human. I really can’t fault them for much. All I’m asking is to be entertained and I feel they’ve done their job.
